UPDATE 12/18/19: Posting some updated custom builds – Note, there are performance issues being reported by many users. The Boxer builds are running less FPS and some audio is not the same. However – it works on Catalina. If you haven’t tried it yet – you CAN use DosBox…but…we all DO love Boxer 😉

So the latest version of MacOS will no longer support 32-bit applications. Yes…Apple is doing it again like they did with Rosetta support, and other lovely things in the past that get old. They like to move forward, and make you move too (like it or not). To read more about this you can see here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436

Unfortunately…This includes one of my favorite apps: Boxer – An awesome DOSBox Emulator with GUI and MT-32 ROM support. I was sad to see that this application hasn’t been already updated to have the support, so I figured someone might have done it already. Did some Google-Fu and it turns out a person named “Yozy” did it!

  1. Jan 13, 2020  Dos games no longer work in Mac OS X 10.15 beta (1 or 2). This issue seems to be caused by the fact that 32 bit is no longer supported in OS X 10.15, and the dosbox emulation gog is using is 32 bit. DosBox 0.74-2 brought 64-bit support to their Mac version, so hopefully this is a known issue that GOG will resolve before the official release of.
  2. While macOS is not well-known for gaming, you can still play DOS games on your Mac. Learn how to play DOS games on macOS with DOSBox, the leading DOS emulator on any platform. Note: for Windows and Linux users, these are instructions are for playing old DOS games on Windows and Linux.
  3. With DOSBox, an emulator for the DOS operating system, you can execute programs and games that belong to this already mythical platform. It emulates 286 and 386 processors in real and protected modes. It supports a variety of video modes which are characteristic in this operating system, like Hercules, EGA, VGA, and VESA, among others.
  4. Oct 19, 2019  MS-DOS Games Wrappers. The majority of our DOS game wrappers were created with version 0.74 of DOSBox, which is a 32-bit application. This means if you have downloaded DOS games in the past from this site, and you have upgraded to macOS Catalina, you.

You’ll notice I’ve also posted this information on the Github link in hopes the developers see it and may be able to take advantage of this, or get some help from Yozy to update the main branch 😉

Express Sep 22, 2017  Just upgraded to Outlook 2016 as part of the new Office 2016 for Mac package. Running Public Beta of OS X El Capitan (10.11). Outlook freezes (pinwheel) and I'm forced to Force Quit Outlook as a result. There is mention of an increased level of security in El Capitan again a certain TLS vulnerability called 'Logjam.' I am new to Mac and did not want to Mess up my new Mac. Anyone know if it is safe? Or will TBird just not install? Any known problems? Should I migrate first from Outlook Express 6 to Thunderbird and then migrate to the OS X? Or install TBird straight to the OS X and import the Outlook Express to it in EL Capitan? Upgraded my Mac to the official latest release of El Capitan now my Outlook 2011 freezes trying to connect to exchange. Cannot Upgrade to Office 2016 due to the Exchange being 2007 and is not supported. If I quickly turn outlook to Offline all is well except don't get emails.
