Just check that out. View NXi opens Capture when you use the Edit button, and then Capture states it cannot open a file in Nikon RAW format. Gosh, is this really happening :-

Nov 15, 2015 I just purchased a D750 I have a MAC with the new OS El Capitan. I tried to load the Capture NX-D and Nikon ViewNX 2. Neither one would load. Tata photon dialer for mac yosemite free. I wanted to install the Capture NX-D but it kept getting hung up at the final install, the blue bar was complete but would not go to the next step. The ViewNX-i is software optimized for browsing, managing and storing of still images and movies. The software maintains the same easy operation as with the previous ViewNX 2. Quick switching of workspaces can be done using tabs. It is easy to switch work spaces just by selecting tabs from Browse, Map and Web at the upper left of the display. ViewNX 2 is an all-in-one image browsing and editing software application for both still images and movies. Nikon Transfer 2, which can be used for transferring images to a computer, and Picture Control Utility 2, which allows users to adjust and manage Custom Picture Controls, have been incorporated into ViewNX 2, and functions for editing movies, including one that allows you to trim movie. Jun 19, 2017 Capture NX-D teamed up with ViewNX-i works very well. Use ViewNX-i to view, cull, sort, look at camera data, etc. When you wish to edit, select the thumbnail and then click the NX-D button to open Capture NX-D to do most of the important editing that Capture NX-2 did previously. Click the ViewNX-i button to go back. No problem for me on OSx 10.9.4 .. though I don't see how it's going to usurp PhotoMechanic (and from there to LR).

Yes.
You seem to be able to add several other programs to the 'Open With' dialogue
I just added Photoshop, Lightroom, and Nikon Capture NX2
I am keeping a compressed copy of View NX2 for now - just in case. (Downloaded from the Nikon site).

what does it do better than the old version? (i.e. what am I getting in exchange for giving up basic editing iin the old package?) I don't use any other Nikon software, and probably never will..

So if I understand this correctly, ViewNX-i has LESS functionality than ViewNX2. Stripped is the ability to do basic edits.
If true, I'll stick with ViewNX2 but it's going to suck awfully fast if I get a new camera and ViewNX2 does not support it.

Hey Danner, make sure you have installed Capture NX-D version 1.2.0, the error you are seeing happens with version 1.1.0 of CNX-D.
I am not a software developer but it seems to me that it would be simple enough for the installer of View NX-i to check which version of CNX-D is installed and warn the user to upgrade to v. 1.2.0. Seems like an oversight to me.
